Riyadh is set to host the WTM Spotlight Riyadh event from 8 to 10 September at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Centre, bringing together global travel industry leaders to explore opportunities in Saudi Arabia's rapidly expanding tourism sector. The event, organized by RX, aims to foster strategic partnerships that support the Kingdom's long-term growth ambitions under Vision 2030.

Fresh data from STR underscores the resilience of Saudi Arabia's hospitality market, driven by robust domestic demand and sustained investment in infrastructure. Notably, Jeddah has seen a surge in demand since March 2026, attributed to its coastal appeal, leading to upward revisions in growth forecasts. STR analysts expect continued recovery into 2027, with occupancy and average daily rates trending favorably.

New research from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) reinforces this positive outlook, noting that no destination has ever suffered permanent collapse following a crisis. Instead, recovery often paves the way for stronger growth. In Q1 2026, Saudi Arabia recorded an 8% year-on-year increase in visitors, reaching 37.2 million, with tourism spending hitting $22.1 billion (82.7 billion Saudi Riyals). Domestic tourism also rose by 16%, reflecting strong local engagement and the success of initiatives to encourage Saudis to explore their own country.

Strategic platform for global partnerships

WTM Spotlight Riyadh is expected to attract over 6,500 regional and international visitors, along with 150 invited international buyers, creating a dedicated marketplace for industry leaders to exchange ideas and forge partnerships. The event will feature a conference program with sessions on aviation, hospitality, technology, and destination development, as well as networking opportunities designed to facilitate business deals.

Danielle Curtis, regional portfolio director at RX, commented: "The tourism sector in Saudi Arabia is a remarkable example of resilience, supported by Vision 2030 and continuous investment in infrastructure, aviation, and hospitality. WTM Spotlight Riyadh provides a vital platform for global travel professionals to connect with Saudi partners and tap into this dynamic market."

The event comes at a time when Saudi Arabia is aggressively expanding its aviation and hospitality offerings. Riyadh Air's fleet expansion signals the kingdom's ambitions in luxury long-haul travel, while private aviation is evolving from a luxury perk to a Vision 2030 enabler. These developments are complemented by policy changes such as the multi-entry Umrah visa, which has opened the door to year-round pilgrimage travel.

For travel professionals, the data from STR and WTTC offers actionable insights. Jeddah's coastal demand surge suggests opportunities for hoteliers and tour operators to develop coastal packages. The overall growth in visitor numbers and spending indicates a buoyant market for airlines, cruise lines, and destination management companies.

WTM Spotlight Riyadh is part of a broader effort by Saudi Arabia to position itself as a top global destination. The Kingdom aims to welcome 150 million visitors annually by 2030, a target that will require continued collaboration between the public and private sectors. Events like this one are crucial for building the networks and partnerships needed to achieve that goal.

As the travel industry gathers in Riyadh, the message is clear: Saudi Arabia is not just recovering from the pandemic—it is thriving, and it is open for business.
